Succumbing to the clamor to "do something about global warming" our leaders hastily decided to invest our future in ethanol. Even now when general scientific opinion is that ethanol is no less, and possibly more polluting then gasoline, they have mandated a doubling of its use, and have subsidised the industry at 1.38 dollars per gallon.The next fiasco in the making is the ban on incandescent bulbs. Theoreticaly this move will save energy by replacing them with fluorescents. The energy cost of disposing of these mercury containing replacements and the effort needed to decontaminate if one breaks, is totally ignored in the haste to appear "green " and aware.
