Take the Fifth

I am distressed at the high profile cases where no crime is alledged except not confessing to wrong doing. What has happened to the right against self incrimination.? Doesn't anyone tell Martha Stewart, Scooter Libby or Barry Bonds to just shut up .? Why is it a crime to not confess to a crime ?
